Stat Points & EVs Explained

Everything you need to know about stat allocation in Pokemon Champions.

What Are Stat Points?

Stat points are Pokemon Champions' version of EVs (Effort Values). They directly increase your Pokemon's stats. Each Pokemon can have up to 66 total stat points distributed across HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed.

Each individual stat can have a maximum of 32 stat points. Each stat point costs 5 VP, so maxing out a Pokemon costs 330 VP in stat points alone.

Converting EVs from Smogon

Champions converts EV spreads using the official HOME transfer rule: the first SP in a stat costs 4 EVs, each additional SP costs 8. It matches how EVs round into stat boosts at Level 50 with a 31 IV, so your final stats land in the same place.

▲ Rule

1st SP = 4 EVs · each extra SP = 8 EVs

4 EVs → 1 SP

12 EVs → 2 SP

252 EVs → 32 SP (per-stat cap)

508 EVs → 32 SP (clamped)

Use the EV Converter tool for instant conversion — it also scales any spread that overshoots the 66-SP total budget.

Common Stat Point Distributions

Physical Sweeper

32 Atk / 34 Spe / remainder HP

Max Attack, max Speed, rest in HP for survival. Use with Jolly/Adamant nature.

Special Sweeper

32 SpA / 34 Spe / remainder HP

Same idea but for special attackers. Use with Timid/Modest nature.

Bulky Support

32 HP / split Def+SpD / minimal Spe

Maximize survival. Great for Trick Room setters and Intimidate pivots.

Speed Benchmark

Invest just enough Speed to outpace a specific threat, then put everything else into offense or bulk. Use the Speed Tier Calculator to find your target.

Natures Matter

Natures boost one stat by 10% and reduce another by 10%. This is a bigger swing than several stat points — always pick the right nature before investing stat points.

Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) — physical attackers that don't need SpA

Modest (+SpA, -Atk) — special attackers

Jolly (+Spe, -SpA) — fast physical attackers

Timid (+Spe, -Atk) — fast special attackers

Bold (+Def, -Atk) — physical walls

Calm (+SpD, -Atk) — special walls

Brave (+Atk, -Spe) — Trick Room physical attackers

Quiet (+SpA, -Spe) — Trick Room special attackers

Optimization Tips

  • Use the Damage Calculator to find the minimum stat points needed to survive a specific hit — then put the rest into offense.
  • Don't invest in both Attack and Special Attack unless the Pokemon is a mixed attacker.
  • Speed investment should target specific benchmarks. Check Speed Tiers to see what you need to outspeed.
  • HP investment is the most efficient way to increase general bulk — it helps against both physical and special attacks.
  • A nature change costs 500 VP. It's expensive but often more impactful than several stat points.
