How to Build a Sun Team in Pokemon Champions
Sun teams combine Drought weather with Chlorophyll speed and boosted Fire attacks. Here's the complete playbook.
Why Sun is Strong
Sun does three things: boosts Fire moves by 50%, doubles the speed of Chlorophyll Pokemon, and weakens Water moves by 50%. Your Grass/Fire attackers hit harder AND outspeed the entire field, while the opponent's Water coverage is cut in half.
Sun also enables Growth (which gives +2 Attack and Special Attack in sun instead of +1), Solar Beam (no charge turn), and Weather Ball (becomes 100 BP Fire). It's one of the most explosive archetypes in Pokemon Champions.
Sun Core Pokemon
Every sun team needs a Drought setter and at least one Chlorophyll sweeper. The setter provides automatic sun on switch-in, and the sweeper exploits the speed boost.
Drought setters: Torkoal (best — slowest, so sun stays up after weather wars), Ninetales (faster, more offensive).
Chlorophyll sweepers: Venusaur (Sleep Powder + strong STAB), Lilligant (After You support + Grass STAB).
Fire attackers: Charizard (Mega Y gives its own Drought + massive SpA), Torkoal itself (Eruption at full HP is devastating in sun).
How to Play Sun
Lead Drought + Chlorophyll: The classic lead. Your sweeper immediately outspeeds everything and fires off boosted attacks. Torkoal + Venusaur is the gold standard.
Eruption pressure: Full HP Torkoal Eruption in sun is one of the hardest-hitting spread moves in the game. Pair it with Wide Guard protection or Fake Out support.
Sleep Powder: Venusaur with Chlorophyll outspeeds almost everything and can put a threat to sleep before it acts. This buys you free turns.
Backup weather: If the opponent overrides your sun, have a plan. Either bring the setter back in, or carry a manual Sunny Day user.
How to Beat Sun
Override the weather: Rain (Drizzle) and Sand (Sand Stream) erase sun's advantages. Rain also boosts Water moves, which hit Fire and Ground types super effectively.
Rock types: Resist Fire, hit back with Rock Slide (spread move). Tyranitar also brings Sand Stream to override sun.
Flash Fire: Completely immune to Fire moves. Pokemon with this ability can switch into predicted Fire attacks for free.
Wide Guard: Blocks Eruption and Heat Wave — the two main sun spread moves.
Safety Goggles: Immune to Sleep Powder, removing Venusaur's most disruptive tool.
Support Pokemon
Sun teams need partners that cover their Rock/Water weaknesses and provide utility.
